COVID-19 Icon Library

Project overview

When COVID-19 hit, the NSW Government consolidation project was put on hold while we created a COVID-19 microsite. This was a very intense time to be working in the NSW Government and it required everyone in our team to work harder, faster and to help in every way possible. Through the collaboration of everyone in the NSW Digital Channel team (a team of 50 people) we designed, developed and built the NSW Government COVID-19 website. All in about a week!

As we continued to update COVID information and make design improvements we decided that we would need icons to help:

  • engage our customers

  • assist with the navigation

  • give components a greater hierarchical value

  • break up content to make it more readable

  • provide a visual identity to separate the COVID-19 pages from the rest of the NSW Government website

 The Challenge

Icons are effective communication devices, however the icon library we were using did not have icons specific enough for our needs.

Having a background in graphic design, I set to work designing a COVID-19 icon library that would be used across all NSW Government branding and marketing materials.
